Let’s get your camera and mic talking.

A blank camera or silent microphone is often a permission or device issue. Start with the symptom below and try one change at a time.

The browser says access is blocked

Review this website’s camera and microphone permissions in your browser. If you previously blocked either device, change that setting when you are ready to use it. Your operating system may also have a separate permission for the browser.

After changing permissions, leave any active call and reload the page. Open the site directly in your browser if you arrived inside another app’s built-in browser.

The camera is black or unavailable

Do not keep starting new matches while troubleshooting. First confirm that the device itself can capture an image.

  • Check any physical camera cover or privacy switch.
  • Close other calls and apps that may be using the camera.
  • Reconnect an external webcam and select the intended device if the browser offers a choice.
  • Check whether your camera works in the device’s camera app, then close that app before returning.

The other person cannot hear you

  • Check the call’s mute control and any mute switch on your headset.
  • Make sure the intended microphone is connected and selected.
  • Check microphone access for both the website and the browser in system settings.
  • If you use Bluetooth headphones, check that sound is not being routed to another paired device.

You hear echo, or audio keeps cutting out

Try headphones, lower your speaker volume, and close duplicate tabs with the same call open. Ask the other person to check their speakers too: an echo can come from either end.

A weak connection can interrupt both audio and video. Move to a more stable connection, pause large downloads, and try again after leaving the current call.

Using a phone browser

Keep the browser in the foreground during setup. Allow camera and microphone access only when you are ready. A site permission and the phone’s app permission can both affect access.

Browser menus vary by device and version. Consult the browser’s own permission guide for current instructions. A responsive page alone does not guarantee that every phone, browser, and camera combination supports a call.
